THE RANCH

The Whitley W5 Ranch is located in the Ozark foothills of Southwest Missouri. Our 200 acre ranch is home to a working horse and cattle operation. Utilizing the need to work cattle, with the training and skills it can provide to horses, we use our ranch as a total operation for raising beef cattle and training quality quarter horses. It is our goal to train our horses in a well-rounded manner.

THE BLOODLINES

Our stud, Doc O Badger Twist, is an own son of Doc O Lena Twist. His breeding brings cutting abilities and cow sense to his off-spring. Bloodlines from Doc Bar and Peppy San Badger on the top and bottom of his breeding brings plenty of ability and cow sense.

We have added an additional stud to our breeding program, Dirty Dancer, own son of Sky High Leo.  Dancer has team roped in the PRCA, and with his dark bay coloring he throws LOTS of color on his colts.  His first colts will be arriving after Jan. 1, 2008.

Our brood mares share similar backgrounds in breeding, with many having Rugged Lark as their grandsire. We have found that the Rugged Lark bloodline gives the foals intelligence and people-friendliness, while the sire’s bloodlines add ability and working cow sense.

OUR GOALS

It is not our goal to raise our foals in a "puppy-mill fashion". We limit the number of foals each year to a number that we can effectively work and train. We have indoor and outdoor facilities enabling us to work with our horses daily the year round. We start our foals slowly and gently. Believing that a horse "learns" to buck, we start with
lots of ground work so our horses trust us completely before riding. We want our customers to have a horse that likes them, that they like, and that they "want to ride".

OUR METHODS

While we give our horses a well-rounded education in trail riding, moving cattle, arena working, etc., our main emphasis is on reining training and roping. We have found that reining training puts a handle on any horse that enables that horse to easily, gently, and quickly adapt to virtually any other event. Our foals have been champions
at calf roping, team-roping, barrels, and reining. We have had many people follow us to the trailer asking about a roping horse. Little did they know that it was the horse's first time out. Reining training puts that kind of control in a horse.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Horses are meant to be ridden. We don't want a customer to end up with a "yard ornament". We sell horses that will be a friend and companion. We want our customers to love their horses as we love ours.
